The Outsiders

Obviously there are many similarities and differences between the book and the movie “The Outsiders.”
The three main similarities are the scene were Dally harasses Cherry at the movies, the scene were ponyboy and Jonny are in the hospital and were Jonny and Ponyboy fall asleep in the vacant lot. The similar parts in the movie theater scene are the imagery the character and the actions. The main similarities in the scene were Jonny and Ponyboy are in the hospital are the imagery, the characters and the actions. The similarities in the third scene are the imagery the characters and the actions, but there is one major difference in the imagery. In the book ponyboy has a dream that he and his whole family are living happily in the countryside but in the movie he has a dream that his parents get hit by a train.
The main differences between the movie and the book are when ponyboy writes his paper. In the book, Ponyboy writes his paper at the end of the book but in the movie he writes it at the beginning. Also a scene was occluded in the movie. In the book there is a scene were Soda pop tries to take a police man’s gun and the police officer just smiles at him and laughs. I felt that the scene was very important to the book. The final major difference between the movie and the book is another occluded scene. In the book there was a scene were Ponyboy gets jumped by some Soc’s and in the movie it skipped the whole part. I was very frustrated by that.
I liked “The Outsiders” book more that the movie. I felt that the book developed everyone’s character better than the movie. Personally I felt that the movie left to many scenes out in order for the movie to make the audience really understand what the movie was about. Furthermore I felt that the movie was very choppy and if they wouldn’t have taken so many parts out then it would have been smoother.
